Best AI Courses in India for 2027

Guides · By Arthi Rajendran, The Arthi AI Collective · Published · Updated

If you search for the best AI courses in India, you get hundreds of lists. Most of them rank courses without asking the one question that matters: how do you actually learn? I am Arthi Rajendran from The Arthi AI Collective, and in this guide I compare the four main types of AI course honestly, including my own, so you can pick the right one for 2027.

1. Free courses: start here

Free courses are the best first step for almost everyone. You lose nothing if you stop.

  • [NPTEL](https://nptel.ac.in/): online courses from the IITs and IISc, funded by the Ministry of Education. Its site lists 3200+ courses for self study. Good if you want academic depth and an Indian certificate exam option.
  • [SWAYAM](https://swayam.gov.in/): the Government of India's course platform, which also hosts NPTEL courses.
  • [Microsoft Learn](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/training/): free modules and learning paths, useful if your workplace runs on Microsoft tools.
  • [Elements of AI](https://www.elementsofai.com/): a free online introduction to AI for non-experts.
  • [Google AI Essentials](https://grow.google/ai-essentials/): Google's course on AI basics and prompting. Check the page for current pricing and access in India before you enrol.

Best for: beginners, students, and anyone testing whether AI is for them. Watch out for: finishing. Free courses are easy to start and easy to abandon.

2. Paid online platforms

Platforms such as Coursera and DeepLearning.AI (AI for Everyone) offer structured courses and certificates. Prices and access change often, so check the live course page before you pay.

Best for: people who want structure and a certificate at a moderate cost. Watch out for: buying many courses and finishing none.

3. University and cohort programs

Many IITs, IIMs and other universities run AI programs, often with edtech partners, for working professionals. They usually have live classes, a batch and a schedule.

Best for: people who want a recognised institution's name and a fixed timetable. Watch out for: fees, time commitment and how much hands-on building is really included. Ask for the syllabus and speak to past learners before you pay.

4. 1:1 AI mentorship

Here one mentor works live with you on your own goals. This is what I offer through my five 1:1 tracks. Each week includes one live 60-minute 1:1 session, and tracks start at ₹8,999 for four weeks (AI Launchpad for Students). There are also tracks for working professionals, complete beginners, people between roles and business owners.

Best for: people who have stalled on courses, or who want to build with their own work. Watch out for: cost. It costs more per hour than a recorded course, so try free options first if budget is tight.

Arthi's take

I have taught AI to thousands of people, and the course itself is rarely the problem. Finishing is. My honest advice is to pick one free course and use it on your real work for 20 to 30 minutes a day. My 90-day AI roadmap shows you exactly what to do each month.

If you stall, that is when guidance helps. One of my learners, a logistics business owner, told me, "I had no direction actually". Four 1:1 sessions later he had connected Codex to his CRM and automated his social media publishing. You can read his story and more Learner Stories.

And please do not pay for three AI tools while you learn. Read which AI tool to pay for first, and if you are worried about your career, read my take on AI and jobs in India.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best free AI course in India?

For a structured, Indian option, look at NPTEL, run by the IITs and IISc. For a quick start on using AI tools, Microsoft Learn and Elements of AI are free. Pick one and finish it before adding another.

Do I need to know coding to learn AI?

No, not to use AI well at work. Coding helps if you want to build machine learning models, but many people start with no code at all, as my 90-day roadmap shows.

Is an AI certificate enough to get a job?

No course or certificate can guarantee a job. What helps most is proof, real things you built from real work that you can show.

Is 1:1 AI mentorship better than an online course?

It depends on you. Mentorship suits people who want a plan built around their goals and someone to build with every week. A self-paced course can be enough if you are disciplined and only need the material.
