Valve manufacturing professional, AI Edge for Working Professionals
In valve manufacturing, the details matter, and so does the paperwork. He is the person who handles the technical and compliance problems, and a large part of his work was spent with documents: reading standards, summarising them in Excel and running calculations by hand.
He could see how much of that AI might lift, and his wish list was specific. Automate the checking of bills of materials. Find the gaps between industry standards and more than 500 internal procedures. Check drawings. What he needed was a way to get from that list to something that actually worked.
He joined AI Edge for Working Professionals, Arthi's 1:1 mentorship.
The first session was about mapping the path. Using mock data, they planned how BOM checking could be automated, and how connectors to Office 365 and Dynamics 365, together with skills and routines, could fit together. He felt the energy right away. "Yeah. Absolutely. Awesome productivity starting." As the pieces came together, the picture sharpened. "It makes sense. So, yeah, it's much clearer now."
By the next session he had been learning on his own, though he was starting a fresh Claude chat every time. Arthi showed him the difference between chats, projects and Cowork, and how to manage skills so his work could build on itself. "Hmm, very happy."
Then they built something real. Together they created "MTC compare", an app that takes a material test certificate and checks it against the right steel-grade template. They pushed it to GitHub and deployed it on Vercel, so it runs on the web rather than only on his laptop.
Then came the moment it ran. A document that once meant careful checking by hand went in, and the answer came out.
"Brought a PDF and they'll get that result. Yes, this is so cool. Yeah."
Just as important, he understood how it worked. "Okay. I know, I understood the skeleton and structure." That understanding is what turns one app into a skill he can use again, on the next document and the next problem.
A later session looked further ahead, at what he might build next and how to find the use cases that matter most. He left ready to begin. "Yes, thanks for the nice insight. ... I think I'll start working on the use cases thing immediately." And as the plan took shape: "Thank you. I am kind of excited about how this looks."
He started with stacks of standards and hand calculations. He now has a working, hosted app that checks test certificates, a clear sense of how such an app is put together, and real excitement about what comes next. As he said at the end: "Yes, yes. It's awesome, awesome. So thank you."
